crankbearing Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 HI All, I know this has been posted a million times on user shares, I have read the wiki many times and serached the forums as well and I am still trying to get my head around the proces..any help would be great. On my system - 16 drives. 2tb to 1tb. and I would like this scenario MEDIA --- ---Movies - Movie folder - span ---HDMovies - HD Movies Folder - span ---TV shows - TV show Folder - Seasons - per drive - Not spanned ---Music - artist folders - DISC 7 only ---HDmusic - artists - disc7 only I am confused about setting this all up and where to place the folders or to copy the info once the setup is complete. Would I create the MAIN Music directory and HDMusic directory outside of the MEDIA directory on disc 7 Thanks, Dave
dgaschk Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 You can make 3 shares: 1. Movies-> (split 2) STD HD 2. TV 3. Music-> STD HD
crankbearing Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 So the parity sync is almost done and I am going to set up my user shares. so if I have this correct. I am going to make a directory called media on disk1 and I am going to create 3 shares or is media a User Share as well. Media- top level (user or raid created?)- -SDMovies - Split level 2 will create the sdmovies folder and span all drives but keep the movie files on the same disc -HDMovies - Level 2 - same as above -TVshows - Not sure about this one - if I set this level three it, then the tvshow1 will be on disk1 with the scraped data and as many seasons of that show disk1 can hold and then if full it will create TVshow1 on disk2 (or whatever) and move the seasons data within that tvshow1 folder on disk2. when I add disk 7 or my music directory which will not be spanned then what do you enter for split level disk include or disc exclude like so Music --SDMusic --HDMusic I only want to do this once. I think I have stared at the wiki diagram for two days. Thanks, Dave
dgaschk Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Use the unRAID webGUI to create the Media share. Then access the share from your PC and make whatever directories that you'd like. All disks are included by default, but unRAID does not create the share folder at the top level of a disk until it's needed. UnRAID will never move data from disk to disk.
crankbearing Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 ok made a share from the gui, I have all disks set to export hidden. I created the top level share SDMovies - split level one - all disks included - fill up - 500MB then click add share it refreshes I can that it tried to make the share and restarted samba. I have no shares listed in the gui under shares and I cannot see it from a windows browser. It did create the SDMovies.cfg in the shares folder on the flash. I have the server set to workgrup mode and nfs is disable only smb is enabled. Thanks, Dave
lionelhutz Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I would create seperate shares for Movies, TV and Music. TV at split level 1 keeps a whole show on a disk and at split level 2 keeps a whole season on a disk. You can start with a whole show and then change to seasons later. You could use most free for the TV shows and any new show will be started on the most free disk which will lower the likelyhood it will fill that disk. Peter
crankbearing Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 Thanks Peter, My problem is that I cannot see the share I created in the WebGUi or from a windows browser although the .cfg file has been created. Thanks, Dave
lionelhutz Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I'm not sure why. Try stopping and starting the array or rebooting.
crankbearing Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 I would love to, it spent all day doing a parity sync and now it is performing a parity check. so I am done till morning I guess. Thanks, Dave
crankbearing Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 Well I rebooted and still no share. the SDMovies.cfg file was present, but nothing under the share tab and nothing in /mnt/user dir either. I turned user shares off and then on again and re-created my shares and this time they showed up. I am not sure if this was a bug or something with my system but basically to recap. I had precleared all my drives, ran a parity sync all day. hid my disk share exports. started a parity check and then while doing the parity check tried to create the user share SDMovies and unraid did not create the share, I had no export setting or apply button under the share tab on the share info and the addshare button. Anyhow shares are created now and I have SDMovies set to level 1 and TVShows set to level two with most-free. I am not sure I like the most-free selection. I copied one movies over to the share to check speed on the new system (38-50MB/s) now from win7 teracopy, then the next go round I started encoding some movies with HB set to goto the SDmovie share and it placed them on /Disk2/SDMovies whereas I would have expected them to be on /disk1/SDMovies, but I guess unraid saw the 1 movie on Disk1 and proceeded to place them all on Disk2 as it had more free space than disk 1. So I changed that setting to Fill Up. I will read some more about the storage methods and make a final change once I get it... LOL. Thanks, Dave
