Arbadacarba
If the files are on the array you can just plug the disks in and use Unassigned devices to access them... You may have shares split among the two drives but if you merge them onto the new array it should work fine. Alternatively you can add all the drives together and the files will just be there... But if using parity you will have to rebuild. Quote Link to comment
Skytor59
Oki have 6 Drives that are Parity of 36TB the 2 im adding are 32tb for the 2 new so there are bigger drives them all of them i want to extract just the tv show and movies then rebuild the entire new system on a complety new pc as i cant get any prgrams to use the gpu for streaming so i decided to start fresh new build so i was thanking of using one drive to store the shows and movies on the rebuid with one of the 16tb drives then xfer the files after rebuild then after the shows are back on then i can add my other 16tb drive to the parity? Arbadacarba
The array itself, without parity is just Share folders in the root of each drive... Drive 1: TV Series 1 Season 1 Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 4 Drive 2: TV Series 1 Season 1 Episode 3, Episode 5 Season 2 Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3 The actual distribution will depend on how the shares are set up, but the point is all the data is there on each individual drive. If you add the drives into an array, and DONT LET THE SYSTEM FORMAT THEM, the data will remain there and if you haven't touched the files they should show up with the shares and everything there... Adding drives or rearanging the array only messes up parity... And there are ways to fix that. If you were to build your new system with the new drives and get it set up how you want it. You can plug one of the old array drives (Not the Parity disk) in and copy the files off of it. Then plug in the next drive and copy the files form it letting it "Write Into" the new folders. Then add the drive in however you like. I have a Single Array of 7 Disks plus Parity and a separate pool of SSD's for Cache and a Third Pool of one NVME drive for System Files, Dockers and VMs. Unrelated Question: Why are you moving away from the Arr setup? I have been considering looking at the "Trash Guide" to figure out what I'm missing out on by not using it. Quote Link to comment
