Parity errors galore....

Featured Replies

Some time ago I was having all kinds of parity errors happening on my Unraid array. I would go through all the usual things to correct the errors but they would keep happening from time to time (usually  weeks in between and occasionally months in between the errors raising their ugly heads.)

I was baffled to say the least. With 2 parity disks (4 TB each) and an 11 disk data array (4 TB each) the problems seem to be the same drives all the time with the occasional random drive thrown in to screw with my head.

I don't remember now what made me look at my power supply, but I decided to swap it out for a more recent modular one (the old one was modular too but its was a few years old). Anyway, once I swapped out the power supply all the parity errors stopped happening. Since the swap I have not had a single parity error and its been more than a year since I put in the new power supply.

Both of the power supplies were more than enough to power the AMD system I am using but there must have been something wrong with the old power supply. I didn't test the old power supply so I don't know for sure what was wrong with it. Needless to say it got sent to the recycle depot.

Just thought I would share my experiences in case there are others suffering through the same parity and data error problems.

Check your power supply, it might be the source of your problems, it was for me.
