June 23, 20242 yr What are the benefits of having a four port nic over one port nic? my use cast is mostly using to stream jellyfin to devices on the network. i ask for i have a couple of cards laying around, and would like to know what the use cases for needing a four port nic.
June 23, 20242 yr Some will say "it is cool" but unless you have hundreds of computers in your LAN, there is no need for such a beast. Don't get fooled by terms like "bonding/port aggregation" and so on, they dont do what you expect from them.
June 23, 20242 yr People will use them when they have separate networks / want to use e.g. a VM on unraid as a router etc... but no point for general use, can actually make things more complicated since you then have to care about which port is active etc. Edited June 23, 20242 yr by Kilrah
