I have had this server up and running for 3 years. I had a problem the other day system kept crashing. I replaced memory and all ok. I have never gotten memtest86 to run on this server. I have tried all versions of memtest and just reboots whenever I choose memtest. I have read one other post about this but there was not solution. It never bothered me that memtest wouldnt run  until I had this problem.  Any information on how to make memtest run would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1. Set memory speed manually.  I had to set mine to 266mhz.

2. bump up memory voltage to 1.9 or 2.0.

Even with setting memory speed to 266mhz, I could only get a stable machine with OCZ Ram.

Thanks for the reply. I have already bumped up voltage from 2.0 to 2.1. Speed is at 200. If I go to 266 wouldnt that be a overclock situation. Thanks again.

I tried to relax timings, adjusted clock speeds, adjusted voltages, still no luck. I see the memtest screen for a split second then reboot. The system has been trouble free up until now.

I had to relax timings on my system also, For my CPU I had to set the memory speed to 266, for yours it may be different.

Try only 1 stick of ram.

Check all the capacitors with a magnifying glass for bubbling or leaking.

Make sure all heat sinks are on tight.

Tried both sticks one at a time in all slots, relaxed timings, bumped and stock voltages, still cant run memtest. I ran a parity check last night and all was good, no errors. I dont know what else to try. Oh and it doesnt have those kind of capacitors that leak. Any other ideas. The server just works so great I cant believe that theres something wrong with the system. thanks

Try older versions of memtest.

I would also try to do an md5sum of a whole drive a few times and compare the outputs to make sure you are writing what you expect.

I would also try doing copies with Teracopy in test mode.

This way you are sure what you sent of the network is what is read back.

tried memtest86+ ? Also make sure to try one module at a time in each slot to make sure its not the slots mucking up or one module making the whole thing to crash.

Also how many slots have you got populated and what cpu ?

FWIW, this board is one of the few of its generation that will run reliably with all four slots populated.... I echo the suggestion for an older version of memtest or try memtest86+ or whatever... I remember running memtest on mine when I had it, so don't give up!
