jimmydrac Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Hey all. I am setting everything up and was wondering about user shares. Right now I only have 10 2TB drives that I will be using. 9 data 1 parity of course. I want Unraid to use all available disks kind of like WHS V1. I would hate to run out of space on a certain drive, and not be able to add new episodes to a TV series or new movies to the Movie folder. Should I set the level to 4 or 999. I am not sure about which one will use all drives. Also, is this a setting that I could change in the future, or is it a set at the beginning and that is it? Also, I did a run through with beta 14 with just the free version, and everything seems fine. I will be adding a supermicro SASLP-MV8 this week so I can use all my drives. Should I start with 4.7 or just jump in with beta 14? I see some people are having problems with the beta, but I don't have a LSI based card. Wasn't sure if the Beta was mature enough yet. I will be adding 3TB drives in the future, but not yet. Waiting for the price to come back to earth! Thanks E6750/Asus P5K-E 2 Gigs Ram 10x 2TB Seagate LP
lionelhutz Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 If you don't care which file is stored on which disk then use 99. If you don't want a single TV series season to be spread over multiple disks then you have to structure your storage and use a proper split level. Peter
drawde Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I have kinda the same question. Just setup my unraid pro server the other night and it's awesome. But i'm not sure what kind of user / split level shares i want / need. I'm thinking level 4 but I'm not 100% My basic structure is like this diskx/XViD/Movie.Folder/movie.rar diskx/X264/Movie.Folder/movie.rar diskx/TV/Show/Season XX/Show.EpXX/show.rar Ideally i'd like the same structure spread over multiple disks so as not to run out of space, and it would just drop to another disk whenever needed, but the share itself \\tower\xvid\ for example would show ALL of the xvid folders on ALL of the disks as far as the tv shows, if diff eps are spread over different disks (i'm guessing the only downside would be the hdd having to spin up/down whenever necessary) that's fine as long as i can see all tv shows from all disks in the \\tower\tv is that even possible? FYI I'm on 4.7 EDIT: this is kind of OT but also if setup this way, how will sabnzbd know what disk to put stuff on? sorry if i'm not making any sense, lol. but
dgaschk Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 drawde: Please start a new thread. jimmydrac: Use version 4.7. SASLP-MV8 has been problematic in the betas. This should be fixed before 5.0 goes final.
