zotac geforce 6100-ITX mobo issue?

Featured Replies

Hi all.  I recently used one of Raj's Prototype designs and bought the zotac GF6100-E-E along with the Corsair Builder Series CX430 V2.  I have a couple of questions.

I installed my new amd sempron 145 onto the mobo and attached the heat sink.  Added 2 1 gb sticks or ram.  I then installed the mobo and power supply into a atx case.  I attached the 20 pin power to the board (detaching the 4 pin connector when i did so).

I did not attach the 4 pin connector at first.  When i attempted to power on, the fan for the proc spun, power supply fan spun, but no lights on mobo (not sure if it even has any to be honest), no video, no lights on the keyboard.

So i realized i did not connect the 4 pin connector and did so.  Still no go.

Now, my questions...  Does this sound like a bad mobo or a bad power supply?  How should the power connections look?  I'm pulling my hair out over here.

I do NOT have a spare power supply at this point.  I am probably going to try and pick a cheap one up tomorrow to see if i get different result, but interested in your expert opinions.

Thanks

Little more info..  I bought the Sempron 145 and was dealing with zotac support.  Below is the list of support processors they sent me and the sempron 145 is not on it.  Has everyone had good luck getting it to work?

and FYI the 4 pin adaptor is not required as i originally thought..

EDIT:  This is not correct, there was a post that i read in some obscure forum that said it was not necessary, but it is without a doubt necessary.  My motherboard ended up being bad out of the box.

The sempron 140 and 145 are essentially the same part.

That is what i was assuming, but wanted to be certain.

I pulled the mobo out of the case and tried to boot it and it does the same thing. I also tried a different power supply with same results.  So, that means probably the mobo or the proc.  My assumption is mobo.  What do u guys think?  Should i send both pieces back to newegg for replacement?

If you are coming close to the end of your 30 day return window, then yes, I would return both parts just to be safe.  If you have some more time to play with, then I would return the mobo first, then the CPU second if you still have issues.  I would suspect the mobo as well.  It is pretty rare to find a bad CPU (at least in my experience).  Bad mobos happen all the time.

Thanks for the reply...Heres the crappy part.  Shipping is about half the cost of the board!  Shoulda just bought a new one.  :P

Just an FYI.  New board arrived and she booted like a champ.  unRaid is now running.  Created my share and am copying data over to it now.  So far, very impressed!
