[SOLVED] Power Cut now not Boot

Featured Replies

Hi All.

I had a series of power cuts on Friday and sadly now my unriad server doesnt boot. It statrs the process  then just hangs on loading bzroot and does nothing.

I cant post a sys log as I have no way of getting the log, I tried placing the usb that contains the unriad os into another machine but I keep getting I/O errors when ever I try to access the logs folder, so I think my usb drive is knackered, would you agree?

I was just wondering what my options are?

I know I'm most likely going to loose all my settings, which is a pain but I dont mind as long as I dont loose my data.

If youd like any other info please just ask.

Cheers.

run checkdisk on the usb drive.  Odds are it will fix it.

Thanks for the reply sadly every time I try to run checkdisk on it in windows I get an error saying the drive is write protected.

I am using a lexar firefly usb drive and I cant see a way to remove the write protection.

Cheers.

Interesting... never saw that before.

Your data should be fine. You just need a working flash drive to boot.

Sounds like some sort of strange flash drive corruption.

Thanks all for the replies.

I have a feeling the flash drive is dead lol.

What would the process be for installing unraid again, only ever done it with blank drives?

Is it just a case of getting a new flash drive, installing unraid on it and then recreating the user shares?

Cheers.

Yes. The shares will appear with default configuration. If you have a paid license let Limetech (Tom) know that your flash has died and he should issue a key for your new flash. It is nice of him to do this for us.

Hey just reading up on the installation process again as its been a while and I read that when you start the array for the first time it will format the drives.

Is there anyway to avoid this as I have all my data, it just seems that the flash drive is dead so I need to set up a new one.

Cheers.

unRAID should not format the drives if they are valid unRAID drives. Start by assigning the data drives only and starting the array. They should all appear as good disks. If any appear as unformatted there are 2 possibilities. unRAID mistakenly re-wrote the MBR on the disk or you assigned the parity drive as a data drive. Whatever you do, DO NOT press the format button and DO NOT start the array if it says it will be clearing your data drives.

Hi many thanks.

I have just contacted support to ask for a new license.

All I have to do now is try and figure out which drive was the parity one lol, could be a lot of trial and error.

Assign all drives as data drives, the one that comes up as unformatted will be the parity drive.  DO NOT press the format button as this point.  Then you can assign that unformatted drive back as parity and you should be good to go.

Hi, sorry another question.

Do I have to start the array to get it to tell me which one is unformatted?

I have added all the drives but I cant see a way to tell which is unformatted.

Thanks once again.

Thank you all for your help.

I think I finally have it all back up and running, just gotta configure a few addons and hopefully all will be good.

Thanks again.
