Slow file transfers only when using laptop

Featured Replies

I have the Plus version of Unraid running on a HP Proliant Microserver and very impressed with it even for a Linux noob like me - learnt a fair bit so far  :)

I have two niggly issues and have searched all over to try and resolve them.

If I transfer files from my wired desktop ie from the cache drive to my media drive I see transfer speeds of up to 60MB. If I do the same from my laptop it is really slow 160KB! I have taken a picture of the issue.

I have tried turning off my AV and the Windows firewall which makes no difference. I cant imagine it has any influence on it anyway as all I am doing is transferring files internally on the server.

I have installed SAB and when I reboot I have to keep inputting my details into the web GUI - I am sure its very easy to resolve I just don't want to mess up my current config. I am using a cache drive and SAB is installed to that. I have seen posts saying the ini needs to be edited but I am just not sure what to edit or where to find it  :-[

Many thanks

Is the laptop wireless? At what speed does in connect?

I am not sure to be honest. The laptop is wireless 54G not sure how I can measure the speed of the wireless connection.

Forgive me if I am being stupid but surely the wireless speed shouldn't matter as all I am doing is shifting files internally on the server or am I missing something (more than likely  ;D )

I will plug it into the router and see what speeds I get when I try transferring that way.

You are overlooking that when using windows over a wireless link the files being moved are being sent from the server to the laptop and then back to the server over that wireless link.  (it is not just an internal move as you thought)

Expect performance to be poor.

To do an internal move telnet to the server and enter "mc" at the command line.

Thanks again
