Added 2 new hard drives, now very slow write speed <SOLVED>

Featured Replies

I used to get 20 - 24 megabytes per second write speed to my server.

I added a Seagate 1.5T and a Seagate 2.0T to my array, and now all my drives are slow to write to, 4-7 mb/sec, both the older drives and the new ones when I write to them individually.

What can I check/change?

The server is also much louder louder now, fans are running faster.  I added a 4-in-3 drive cage with a 120mm fan just for these 2 new drives though, so cooling shouldn't be a problem.

Could it be power?  I have a good quality modular power supply (500+ watts can't remember exactly), that is running a 775 chipset celeron, 10 hard drives, 4 120mm fans, and 3 SATA cards.

When I run hdparm -tT  /dev/sdX on all my drives, they all report 800 mb/s+ cached read, and buffered disk reads of 89 - 125 mb/sec.  The 2 slowest drives are the two newest drives at 89 each.

After running the speed checks, I re-ran a file copy and it ran at 20mb/sec, so it seems OK now
