I have been having a heck of a time getting unraid to work, some of it are issues I can't solve until the right equipment arrives, the rest are just things I can't figure out..   The issue I know about is my HBA SAS controller card gets WAY too hot because my GPU takes up 3 slots, covering all of the PCIe X1 slots, so the card actually sits almost flush against the HBA card and there is nowhere to put any fans.   I thought about mounting the GPU vertically, but the kit i ordered is in limbo.

 

 

 

To start with, after spending 5 days figuring out how to get the drives I had to be regcognized AT ALL, i had to do a low level format of two SAS drives in the bios utility for my HBA controller/

 

Next, I have been through the parity check cycle 17 times for a 10TB drive..   I've never gotten past 50% because the system seems to timeout.   The webbrower becomes unresponsive, and when I switch over to my server display, it is completely blank and nothing I do will wake up the machine and I have to do a hard reset, which means that the sync process starts from zero the next time i reboot.

 

To try and get around the overheating issues, i installed a plugin that was supposed to break up the process over several days, and shutdown the computer when it over-heats.   So far, it isn't working.

 

Now I tried out unraid for 3 reasons.   1.  I wanted a NAS Server 2.  I Wanted to Controll my RGB lighing  3. I wanted a plex media server 4.  I wanted a windows VM that would allow me to use my geoforce RTX 2060  with my mini windows PC that I recently bought * for some stupid reason, it will do 4k but not HDR*

 

right now I have two 4 tb drives that I wanted to stripe eventuually with an 8TB drive with ZFS (which i know absolutely nothing about really, the videos i've watched are confusing.

The 8 TB drive contains all my media and movies, which i transfrered over from the 2 4 TB drives..   My temporary plan was to create a folder on the striped drive and then mount  the 8 TB drive to that folder..  The problem is I put one of the 4 TB drives into the array, and not the cache pool and now i don't know how to fix it. Also I don't even know where the 4 tb that is attached to the array is in the file system..

 

For  the RGB and Plex server, i tried using docker..  But I can't get ANY of the web interfaces to work..  I have no clue what i'm doing wrong, or if it's a port forwarding issue  but I am completely stumped.

 

So I told myself 'Fine, I'll just make a windows 11 VM and run everything on that.

 

So i set it up according to several videos i watched. and......it won't install the os.

 

I'm not sure how to post my screen shot, but it says.

 

 

I've also been getting weird random errors like screen flicker and the ARRAY section of the display was completely blank.

 

if anyone has some suggestions, I would love to hear them.. thanks

Assuming you have attached cd, did you set bus to sata? if yes type reset and the press any key should show and load the cd.

Actually when I type in reset, it will not allow me to press the enter key to execute anything.  I have tried pressing both the escape and other keys, neither works..  But a thought did occur to me, maybe i got the boot order reversed?   how would I check that?

Next to each of the lines. But should not make any difference if no bootable system on HDD should goto CD.

After double checking, it turns out I had put the vertio twice, but I am still getting the exact same screen, and it will not let me enter anything into the terminal window

You should make sure that the cd has 1 in the boot order field.
