January 19, 201214 yr I saw there was a stable beta, 6b or something but i cant find it to download, i will be looking to install plex on this system and i would very much like a nice GUI as well..whats recommended for me, i am a linux noob(ish) but can manage basic stuff and probably beyond
January 19, 201214 yr Stick with 4.7 if your a linux "noobish" - you'll sleep more Otherwise, I think 12 or 14 beta are good - it does depend a bit on your hardware. Read through each beta's forum posts (see above about sleeping more )
January 19, 201214 yr Author Hey...i sleep through bombs mate..sleep first..headaches after ..on a serious note, i need a 5 beta because i need it for PLEX. You know, i have come from a QNAP..i have to move on but i REALLY miss the GUI..it was nice to look at..are there nice GUI for UNraid or is it just made that way for the "magnolia painted, chipwood wallpaper" command line linux people ?
January 19, 201214 yr I'm in the same boat as loady, needing to run a beta version of unRaid for Plex as well as 3TB support. At the same time I don't know anything about Linux and want something as stable as possible.
January 19, 201214 yr Author i jumped in at the deep end my friend..i have gone for the beta14, theres only one way to learn, hows it feel to be a noob again ?..i share your pain my friend, these are good people here and i have had good support, more than i can say for QNAP !!
January 19, 201214 yr I think I may do the same, go for most recent beta. I'm all about learning, so if I run into problems coming here and figuring out what to do will only facilitate that. Hope everything goes well,
January 19, 201214 yr You guys may want to post your hardware, especially what type of SATA / SAS cards you are running. Some versions of beta had issues with Supermicro's MV8 whereas other versions had issues with M1015 cards. I am currently running Supermicro's MV8 on 5b11 without any issues so far. I have a M1015 on order. So we will see what happens when I have one of each installed. I may have to move up to a different beta version. Look at the following post and the one just below it.
January 19, 201214 yr I'm currently running 5b11 with 1xMV8 and 1xM1015 card. Once I got past the ESXi hurdles I was running on, I've been good since last weekend so far. I do not spin down drives, or sleep my machine, APF or NFS, so YMMV. Had tried earlier in testing with 5b12a and had issues (don't recall....iron sieve memory....rusty and full of holes) Best advice, check out the individual threads on the betas looking for issues with which card (if any) you are using.
January 20, 201214 yr Thanks for the tips. I've got a Supermicro MV8 myself, with a Biostar A880G+ motherboard. Looks like I'll be reading up on 5b11 now.
January 20, 201214 yr Author My hardware is a HP proliant micro server N40L, i dont think the card issues will affect me ?..so far it all looks good, at the moment the problem i have getting my head around is that of migrating my data over (see my other post)
