This way the drive is unusable. Drives are from juli 2010. Could it be defective? Are you logging off? (preclear would terminate when you do) Are you starting the preclear from the system console, via telnet, within a "screen" session, some other way? What does the screen show? Any drive can be defective... regardless of age. it can be defective after 5 minutes...days, weeks, or years. Are you running out of memory? Is the process being killed? You've given symptoms, but no clues. Joe L.

The window shows a percentage of 0% for the post read for hours on end, it does not refresh. writing zeroes was with a constant refresh of time and percentage and another drive preclearing simultaneously. This other drive is currently precleared and post read. Have 4 GB internal memory, do not know how to check if I am running out of memory, how can I check? You give a clue, I am quite clueless but do appreiciate any help Joe, thank you for that. Do not have any screenshots as I am at work but hope this info is more useful. JP
