January 19, 201214 yr Upgraded my 4.7 to 5.13 a little while ago as my server was getting full (15 drives a mix of 1.5 and 2.0 tb drives) off of the motherboard and 2 * Promise Sata TX4. Tried upgrading the Parity drive a few weeks ago and it just failed with disk errors, stuck the 2tb old parity drive back and it rebuilt just fine and carried on untill this week as I was. A few spare parts cam to hand so I used them to build a temp server to preclear the 3 tb drives using 5.12, all went well, taking a bit more than a day per drive, figured I'd then try the parity upgrade again on my server dropping it back to 5.12. The parity rebuild started but running at under 1mb per second. Tried it on 5.11 and the same so decided to stuff my old 2 tb back in and get the system back to square one. Now the the rebuild was running at around 10-15mb (slower than it used to I think, I've never been overly concerned it just used to take a day or so). A day in and its only got to 40% and then locked up, can't telnet in or access the web gui so I've rebooted and started the rebuild again and am posting the log. its currently running at 9mb on 5.11. syslog-2012-01-19.txt
January 21, 201214 yr Author Overnight having got to about 30% after a day and a half parity rebuild halted. Figured I'd try again using the above suggestion with a clean install of 5.11, the rebuild started at around 14mb/sec which I think was fair for my hardware. Thought I'd try a 3tb parity upgrade rather than rebuild the 2tb one now it seemed to be running ok. With the 3tb parity drive the parity rebuild started syncing at 0.9 mb/sec. Edit: its upto 1.35mb/sec about 10 minutes later, I'm going to leave it a while longer and see what happens.
January 21, 201214 yr Author 4 hours later, 30gb done, stil running around 1mb/sec. A buddy suggested it may be an interrupt issue between SATA and onboard sound, decided to reboot and check and it (the sound) was enabled in the bios so I disabled and started again, restarted parity sync and it stated up around the 1mb/sec mark. Powered down and re-added the old 2gb parity drive. Its now running around 10mb/sec. I'll leave it for a while and see how it progresses...
January 21, 201214 yr Author Just wanted to add that with the 3tb drive the whole interface slowed, refreshes of the web page took ages. Eith the 2tb back in its back to normal. Definitley think I have an issue somewhere with the 3tb drives on this system?
September 25, 201213 yr Hello, did you ever find a solution to your parity issue? I seem to be having the same problem. My 3tb drive is checking at 680 KB/s. Last time it checked at almost 95 MB/s. Running unraid 5rc5 on esxi
September 25, 201213 yr Author I think mainly it was my old over burdened server, its much better on my new hardware as sig.
September 26, 201213 yr Got this working. Shutdown -- unplug and repluged in all drives. (probably a loose connection somewhere)
