Started array, failed device.

Featured Replies

I just installed unraid 6.2.11 on my Ryzen 1800x / Arc A310 system.

I have 3x 18TB HDDs and a 512 GB SSD that I have just tried to create an array with to get a plex server going.  I selected an empty drive for parity as one the 18TBs has my media collection on it.  I created the array and am in parity sync hell ( 18 hours time of writing) I assume I need to wait until parity sync finishes and I can reboot before I can start docker (which also fails to start) and install plex, is that correct?

18 hours for 18TB parity would be much faster than expected.

Your subject line says failed device but you don't mention anything about that.

You can use the server while syncing parity, but performance will be affected.

What filesystem is on your media disk?

If you haven't let Unraid format array or cache docker has no storage to work with.

Sorry, forgot about that I just assumed they fail until parity is achieved.  Either way I would have to cancel parity sync to restart and use docker but I'm turbo nervous im about to lose my media.  The filesystem on my media drive was ext4 coming from ubuntu.

Unraid does not support ext4, you can mount you old disks with the UD plugin, but will need one free disk to let Unraid format and copy the data.

I can't mount the HDD with my media for whatever reason. I guess I deleted my entire library.  Its back to Ubuntu for me.

Hi Everyone

hope getting some help here

Array Status shows Array has 1 failed device. 1 SMART error.

I know that one of my HDD is kinda old thus the SMART error

but the failed device is suddenly appeared

I can access the HDD just fine and view the data on it

also lsblk shows the device is available same in Hardware tab in Unraid GUI

attached diagnostics

Thanks in advance
