July 30, 20241 yr UNRAID v6.1.24 Hardware - 15 year old Dell XPS. System has 'latest' BIOS update, but that dates back to 2009. UPS is APC Back-UPS ES 650G1 I have my NAS connected to my UPS by a USB cable. Graceful shutdown configured and works as expected with a power outage today. The power came back on a few hours later, and without my intervention the server powered back on by itself. TBH I am pleasantly surprised, as I thought this was not the case, but I am perplexed as to how this happened. I don't recall configuring this, and I don't see any "power on after outage" configurations in the UPS Settings (web console). Can anyone explain this?
July 30, 20241 yr Solution Many BIOS's have three states for power on. Always on, Always off, previous state.
July 30, 20241 yr Community Expert Looks as your UPS has something call Sleep Mode, which will automatically power back on the UPS AC outlets once the battery charges. Not every function of every UPS ever made is in any software. As for the server coming back up, check your BIOS settings. There usually is a section for what can power on a system (Keyboard, Ethernet, PCIe card, etc). Usually has a setting to either power the system up when power is applied or when power button is pressed.

It also seems that you agree with @JonathanM, that it could be a setting in the BIOS
July 31, 20241 yr Community Expert Yes, I've seen the BIOS setting sometimes with 2 choices (Power Off, Power On) as well as with three (Off, On, Last State). Depends on the model of CPU/Motherboard chipset and probably MB manufacturer.
