USB Stick with Unraid files is corrupted?

Featured Replies

The machine I am using has stopped recognizing the USB stick and will bot boot from it. I believe it is the stick and not the machine.

I do not have a backup of the software o the USB stick.

What can I do?

The most important files on your flash drive are the Unraid license key and the server configuration files.  These are located in the /config folder.

Assuming you have no backup of the USB stick (you need to correct that once you are up and running again), can you insert the flash drive in a Windows PC or Mac and get a copy of the /folder?  If so, you can download Unraid and install it on another flash drive and then copy over the backed up /config folder.  You will have to transfer the license to the new USB flash drive but that can be done from the GUI if the new USB flash drive works.

If you cannot get a copy of the /config folder backed up, it will be a little more involved.  Hopefully, you know which of your disks is the parity disk (more complicated with dual parity).  If so, you can use the New Config tool and reassign your drives to the array (making sure not to assign the parity drive as an array/pool disk.  It does not matter which array drive is assigned to which slot as the disks are tracked by serial number.  The rest of the config you will have to rebuild manually.

You may also find this information from the manual useful if you do not know which drive(s) are parity.

Thanks for the comments.

I placed the USB Stick in my Windows PC and no recognition.

Any thoughts?

If the USB stick is not recognized it has likely gone bad.  If you have no backup (as you indicated earlier), you have no choice other than to replace the flash drive and reconfigure the system.  You will need to transfer your license to the new USB stick.  Here is a link from the manual (bottom right corner of GUI) on replacing the flash drive.  When doing a New Config to reconfigure the array, follow the link I posted previously if you do not know which drive(s) are parity drive(s).

I was able to log in from my PC,

I am not sure what to do next about the parity deiv

Disk 1, 2, 3 are each 4TB drives

Unassigned Dev 1 is an SSD that I believe is used for start up but I am not sure.

This is my attempt at creating a new USB Stick in order to recrate the config.

yes

I need the next step to set the parity

My system has 3 Seagate 4TB devices.

Disk 1 is unmounted serial ending in YD4

Disk 2 and 3 are mounted.

In addition there is 2 250GB SSD that is unassigned.

Stopped Array and now

In Main Parity is greyed out and the down arrow will only allow "unassign" or the Samsung SSD

Disk 1, 2, 3 are listed and it appears I can move them around.

Not a correct choice though I believe.

From the instructions I am not sure how to change Disk 1 to Parity.

I did a new config and assigned the unmounted Seagate drive to parity.

That left disk one unassigned,

Do I move the other 2 seagate drives to Disk 1 and 2?

What is the purpose of the unassigned Samsung 250GB SSD?

You can.

You're the one that should know that, I would guess it was being used as a cache pool.

how do i reassign it a a cache pool?

Found it

I am more than confused.

If I move disk 1 the Unmounted disk to Parity. that creates an error of Wrong on Disk 1 in Maim

If i then move Disk 2 to Disk 1 and Disk 3 to disk 2 that creates an error of missing in disk 3

and an overall error of invalid

There has to be a simple answer of where to put this all

The Samsung SSD is assigned to Pool -Cache

You need to do a New Config

If it's not letting you move the disks, the new config was not correctly done, all devices must have a blue icon if it was.

I have been able to assign the unmounted disk as parity,

Now it says the parity is incorrect.

Is there someone in the North Dallas Area that can actually take my device and fix it at a reasonable cost.
