CyklonDX
Hi, Long story short, when i add a GPU to the kvm and attempt to start it doesn't start, and libvirt hangs; and i can only reset the system to reboot - i do not seem to be able to kill libvirt or query virsh; while ui freezes on dashboard, vms, and settings>vm manager. (attempting normal/proper shutdown/reboot results in infinite wait.) There are no logs being produced by libvirt at all. If i use vifo-pci to bind the gpu - it freezes on boot on NET: Registered PF_UNIX/PF_LOCAL protocol family. Once the libvirt is frozen, i can verify with nvidia-smi that the gpu wasn't touched in anyway (*its still there, suggesting it hasn't been taken out for the kvm.) The KVM starts fine without the GPU. System Supermicro 7049GP-TRT 2x Gold 6154 All vt feature sets are enabled in bios. below is the kvm config without the gpu (fairly vanilla) <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <domain type='kvm'> CyklonDX
After some experiments disabling "Above 4G Decoding" seem to have been the solution. *After some troubleshooting its because the os is mapping too small / or can't map memory addresses for the pci devices (its unresolved bug), and when kvm is triggered to take ownership of the pcie port its trying to bind that device pcie memory rebar first it fails to acquire the lock resulting in infinite wait nothing - and person who wrote it didn't add any tagging for logs at this step (to log timeouts or end the process, resulting in infinite wait for memory address that it won't be able to bind anyway) i haven't gone too deep into the stack but it might be something with certain systems using 64bit mmio root bus the os fails to assign correct addresses. supposedly this is a fix but... it likely doesn't work. diff --git a/drivers/pci/setup-bus.c b/drivers/pci/setup-bus.c index 219a410..f9e6efb 100644 --- a/drivers/pci/setup-bus.c +++ b/drivers/pci/setup-bus.c @@ -1432,17 +1432,39 @@ static int iov_resources_unassigned(struct pci_dev *dev, void *data) return 0; } +static bool pci_bus_mem_above_4g(struct pci_bus *bus) +{ + int i; + struct resource *res; + + pci_bus_for_each_resource(bus, res, i) { + struct pci_bus_region region; + + if (!res || !(res->flags & IORESOURCE_MEM)) + continue; + + __pcibios_resource_to_bus(bus, ®ion, res); + if (region.end > 0xffffffff) + return true; + } + + return false; +} + static enum enable_type pci_realloc_detect(struct pci_bus *bus, enum enable_type enable_local) { - bool unassigned = false; - if (enable_local != undefined) return enable_local; - pci_walk_bus(bus, iov_resources_unassigned, &unassigned); - if (unassigned) - return auto_enabled; + /* only enable auto when root bus does support 64bit mmio */ + if (pci_bus_mem_above_4g(bus)) { + bool unassigned = false; + + pci_walk_bus(bus, iov_resources_unassigned, &unassigned); + if (unassigned) + return auto_enabled; + } return enable_local; } I dislike it the solution of just disabling BAR pci- so i'll keep searching.
