Problems 2.5 Gbit USB -> RJ45

Featured Replies

Hello Together,

i have Unraid now running for about 3 days but i face some issues with the 2.5 gbit adapter.

So first at all, the first time i connected it/plugged it in, it got recognized and everything. It also showed the 2.5 gbit adapter eth1 in the Dashboard.

After a little time (about 6h maybe???) the connection was suddenly lost and i couldn't go to the webui anymore.

So well i rebooted the machine and it didn't get recognized anymore.

So i thought like well ok maybe the chipset is weird of the adapter.

I googled a little bit and found a Driver Plugin called "RTL8152 Drivers"

With this driver installed it gets detected all the time but today i had a connection loss again.

Do you probably have any hint how i can further debug it?

I only have 3 days experience with unraid so it would be nice if you can probably also reference to the doc/stackoverflow if it's unraid specific :)

i added 2 Screenshots, the one with the green circle was without a driver, the other one with the installed driver

does anyone have an idea? I mean it must be compatible somehow as it works for some time :D

Edit:

Additional information:

I found on google some similiar problems

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1044127/usb-ethernet-adapter-realtek-r8153-keeps-disconnecting

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=284914

On the Amazon link i actually saw that a picture incldues the chipset. So i went to unraid, deinstalled RTL8152 Drivers plugin and installed RTL8156b drivers.

i set the NIC to 2.5gb advertise like explained in the desciption of the plugin

then i quickly installed iperf where i did get close to 2.5 gbit, it was like 2.37 but thats fine

about two minutes after the test it happened again and i had to reboot.

i checked the dmesg and got this:

[   38.781823] usbcore: registered new device driver r8152-cfgselector

[   38.895682] r8152-cfgselector 2-3: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd

[   38.958210] r8152 2-3:1.0 eth1: v2.18.1 (2024/05/20)

[   38.958212] r8152 2-3:1.0 eth1: This product is covered by one or more of the following patents:

                        US6,570,884, US6,115,776, and US6,327,625.

[   38.958226] usbcore: registered new interface driver r8152

little bit more down:

device bond0 entered promiscuous mode
[ 42.355074] r8152 2-3:1.0 eth1: carrier on
[ 42.427069] bond0: (slave eth1): link status definitely up, 2500 Mbps full duplex
[ 42.427085] bond0: (slave eth1): making interface the new active one

so the 8152 driver gets loaded even i installed the 8156b driver?

Whats also funny, when i install the 8156b driver plugin in the webui,

you still see 8152 in the plugin list. Is that normal?

Its getting confusing :D

Please post a diagnostic file by goin to tools > diag

and/or run unraid terminal command lspci and/or lsusb

look for realtek nic this will tell you what realtek nic you have and what unraid driver to go after.
as you can see there are 4 unraid drive plugins.
