January 26, 201214 yr Hi I'm contemplating the addition of Apple mac equipment to my Windows 7 Prof system. I run UnRaid 4.7. I have no experience of owning a Mac before but I do generally like the equipment. I was wondering if any of the Mac owner or experts out there could give me any pointers. Not around which is best to buy but more around any connection issues to UnRaid 4.7, if there are any, as I would definitely want the equipment to access my server. Thanks T.T.
January 26, 201214 yr i run a mixture of windows, linux, mac, and android equipment in my house and everything works fine with the Unraid. I have my server set up to use smb shares and have not had any issues about connectivity. hope this helps
January 26, 201214 yr Author Kingpin Thanks for your reply, thats very encouraging. Which Mac OS are you currently using with UnRaid? I ask as i seem to remember somewhere that there was issues with Samba, i dont know what they were or how to get around them. T.T.
January 26, 201214 yr I am running unRAID 5b14 with mostly Macs (Windows and Linux thrown in for fun). For whatever reason, I can't get AFP to work consistently, but SMB works solid.

January 26, 201214 yr My original install was 4.7 and I had no problems accessing it from my OS X systems which are all running Lion. I decided to move to 5.0b14 for the AFP support and it is working great. The only thing you'll have to deal with are the hidden files and folders that OS X will add, they aren't an issue on the OS X systems, but you may get annoyed seeing them on your Windows systems. I don't have any Windows systems so it's not an issue for me. Search around in the forums and you'll find info on ways to deal with them. Greg

Greg Greg Are you saying the Mac system will put file on my windows machine? How and why does that happen? what sort of files are we talking about here? I'm really very novice with Macs my research seems to indicate that there is no samba in OS Lion? is that not correct? All I want to do really is connect my windows machine and Macs together on the network and both machines read and write to currently 4.7. If that is not possible I cant see any point in me spending that sort of money. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Pete
January 27, 201214 yr Are you saying the Mac system will put file on my windows machine? How and why does that happen? what sort of files are we talking about here? No. The files are created on the unRAID shares if you access them from your MAC. Search the forums whenever you have questions about something, more than likely you will find all the information you need. Here is a post with info about these files. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4417 I'm really very novice with Macs my research seems to indicate that there is no samba in OS Lion? is that not correct? I have Lion on all my MACs and have not had any problem accessing SMB shares on my unRAID server, but this is just me. I did some searches and see that there are issues accessing these shares from Lion depending on your specific configuration. I tested with public shares and did not have a problem, when I made the share private I was unable to authenticate and mount the share. I would recommend you do some more searching on this if you feel it will be an issue for you. I would not let this stop you from using a MAC as there are workarounds for the SMB issues and you can also use NFS or AFP to mount the shares on the MAC. All I want to do really is connect my windows machine and Macs together on the network and both machines read and write to currently 4.7. If that is not possible I cant see any point in me spending that sort of money. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. This is possible but how easy it is will depend on you and your configurations Greg
