January 27, 201214 yr I have a question about the WOL Magic Packet, Lets say the server is in a WOL sleep. Then if a Windows client tries to access the server while it is WOL sleep, nothing happens. From what I have read the client needs to be configured to 'know' that it needs to send the Magic Packet. Correct? Glenn
January 27, 201214 yr If you have DD-WRT router like a Buffalo. You can have the router send a WOL packet.
January 27, 201214 yr The other method is to check your network card/motherboard settings and see if it has a WOL "any packet" - which will wake up the server if it says any type of packet for its mac address. Often these settings have to be enabled via a tool or driver in windows. again, check your network adapter manual or bios manual if its integrated. Note: windows could time out and give an error the first time it tries to access the sleeping server...
