System Unresponsiveness

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm dealing with a frustrating issue on my Unraid setup, and I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some advice or insights. Here’s the situation:

System Specs & Setup:

  • CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2699 v3
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super
  • MB: ASUS X99A-II
  • RAM: 64GB
  • Unraid Version: 7.0.0-beta.2 (also tested on stable build with similar results)
  • Primary Use: ZFS array, Docker containers, and VMs (with GPU passthrough)
  • Network Configuration: Running on default setting

After starting up my ZFS array, Docker containers, and VMs, my system becomes completely unresponsive after about 30-40 minutes. The specific problems include:

  • The entire machine stops responding to PING, SSH and HTTP/S requests.
  • A VM with GPU passthrough crashes entirely, and there's no recovery without a reboot.

Given the symptoms, I suspect that the issue might be related to either the network configuration (currently running on defaults) or the VFIO passthrough. However, I'm not sure how to pinpoint the root cause.

What I've Tried:

  • Testing on both beta and stable builds of Unraid, with the same results.
  • Running bare-metal Windows from the SSD previously used for KVM passthrough, which did not exhibit any of these issues while gaming.

I've attached my full diagnostics here for anyone who can help. Has anyone encountered similar issues, or does anyone have suggestions on troubleshooting network or VFIO passthrough-related problems?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, barti

There's nothing relevant logged, try to confirm if it only happens with VMs or Docker enabled, by disabling one of them and retesting.

I managed to fix the issue; it was my own mistake — I was running the CPU with too low a vCore.

I thoroughly stress-tested and adjusted it, and now it runs great!

Thank you for checking if there were other things I might have done wrong.

It's marked as solved, that's enough.
