Adding new drives / HBA in ESXi build (similar to Atlas build)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

So I just finished building an ESXi box  using Norco 4220 case by following Atlas build. 2 questions:

1. I started out with 1 MV8. It is working fine - able to see my hard drives, etc. I am now adding 2 M1015 cards reflashed to IT mode (one card done, next card will be arriving tomorrow). When I plug the 2 M1015s in, besides just adding in proper cables from the back planes and setting up passthrough in ESXi, is there anything special I have to do as far as unRAID is concerned?

2. When I want to add new hard drives, do I have to powerdown unRAID and ESXi before adding the drives or I can just slap it in and it will be recognized by unRAID? I am in the middle of preclearing bunch of drives....

Thanks

Version 4.7 needs to be rebooted. In version 5 the array needs to be stopped the started.

I never seem to get the M1015 to work with unRaid 4.7.

I'm running 5b11 for a few weeks now without issue with 1 MV8 & 1 M1015 (ESXi 5)

I believe you have to run the beta to get lsi card support.

I know that 4.7 doesnt like hot plugging of hds.

Does hot plug work well in 5??

Warm plugging works decently in the later 5.x series.
