January 29, 201214 yr I know, I'm asking a lot of questions... sorry. I'm pre-clearing 5 disks at once (to many?) and the pre-read was going pretty quickly on all of them. Then I woke up this morning and it was considerably slower. I'm running Pentium 4 3ghz, 2gb memory. 5 1tb hard drives. 2 are onboard SATA150 and 3 are PCI SATA. syslog.txt
January 29, 201214 yr The PCI bus is slowing things down. Use PCIe for multiple drives. PCI can only supports one HDD with good performance.

January 29, 201214 yr Author Aha! That makes sense. I ordered a AOC-SATA2-MV8 that will hopefully be here next week. How many drives can effectively be run on that? Would it be wishful thinking to say 8?
January 30, 201214 yr That is a PCI-X card. Do you have PCI-X slots? It will support 8 drives on a PCI-X slot. It will support 1 drive in a PCI slot. I think you want a AOC-SASLP-MV8. The AOC-SASLP-MV8 supports up to 8 drives on a PCIe-X4 or better. See here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12404.0
