Wake on Any (or ping) motherboards

Featured Replies

I have been researching the Wake-on-lan(WOL) feature to make my server more green.  I have found that some motherboards support both WOL and "wake on ping".  I did some downloading of manuals for motherboards.  I found that the Intel Atom D525 has "wake on ping" listed in the owners manual.  The issue is that the board I had only 2 SATA ports.

Does anyone know of motherboards that have Wake on Ping?

Is Wake on Ping the same thing as Wake on Any?

Note: my understanding is that WOL requires a client to send the server a magic packet to bring it out of sleep.  Whereas a WOP or WOA would bring it back with any packet sent to the server.  Am I correct? To me it seems that WOP would be a more useful.
