Very Slow Data Rebuild

Featured Replies

I've just replaced a 1tb hdd with an 8tb hdd. I didn't do a pre-clear as the SpaceInvader video said I didn't need to. if I was replacing a drive

The data rebuild is very slow - it is running at 1.8 MB/sec and will take 66 days to clear the 8tb drive.

Was it a mistake not to pre-clear it?

Is there anything I can do to speed it up - I thought maybe cancel the rebuild, put the 8tb drive back into Unassigned Devices, clear the format, Pre-Clear it and then add it back into the Array when it will format again and then perhaps the rebuild will be faster?

Would this work? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Post diagnostics.  Its very likely a bad cable/connection

Clear disk or not won't affect speed.

Gragorg - I think you are correct about it being a cable problem - I remember when I plugged in the mini SAS cable into the replacement drive, it felt a bit loose. I'll change the cable and see if that works.  Also,  the rebuild stats show 472gb rebuilt with 115,000,000 writes but only 4 reads on the replacement drive, which also points to a cable problem.

Thanks for your suggestion.
