Smb share works fine read/write and then is only read-only from MacOS after some period of time for the same user/configuration

Featured Replies

Hi there, it is a really annoying behavior between my Mac computers and Unraid server.

Have SMB configured for the file shares with a user with read and write rights. Everything works fine, you can access the share from MacOS and read/write files. Then you let the server as-is for some weeks, you don't access at all.

You try to access again, log with the same previous user and it only has read access, no matter what you do. I have read many other threads on how to configure SMB/Unraid/MacOS and nothing has solved this f* annoying problem.

I have reboot my Unraid and then everything works like a charm again for some period of time. I have no idea how long it takes for the problem to appear - I only use my Unraid occasionally to save photos and videos as a backup. I take shots once a month or more.

Any help is really appreciated but I almost moving to Synology.

Hi JorgeB, the problem has just happened. After weeks without accessing the SMB share, I have just tried from my MacOS and it does let me write anything. Attached are the logs you asked for.

Thanks for your help.

Now, rebooting my unraid box... :(

Pool is going read-only due to ATA errors resulting in a failed write, and it's not the first time:

Sep  9 03:41:15 matrix kernel: BTRFS error (device sde1): bdev /dev/sde1 errs: wr 2, rd 0, flush 0, corrupt 0, gen 0
Sep  9 03:41:15 matrix kernel: ata10: EH complete
Sep  9 03:41:15 matrix kernel: BTRFS: error (device sde1) in btrfs_commit_transaction:2496: errno=-5 IO failure (Error while writing out transaction)
Sep  9 03:41:15 matrix kernel: BTRFS info (device sde1: state E): forced readonly

Please note that controllers with port multipliers are not recommended, but it could also be a power/connection issue, doesn't look like a device problem.

Thank you! I have no clue on how to solve this to be honest. This is a very old computer that I installed the controller and added new disks good 5 years ago I guess. It sounds like it is time to move to another solution.

Would we have any list of recommended hardware for unraid?
