August 24, 20241 yr I currently have the following; 2x Intel Xeon E5-2670 2.6 GHz 8-Core Processor ASRock EP2C602-4L/D16 SSI EEB Dual-CPU LGA2011 Motherboard 4x Samsung M393B2G70DB0-CMA 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) Registered DDR3-1866 CL13 Memory and 4x 10tb + 8x 4tb HDD. with 3x PCI card (4x SATA 6GB/s) RM43-320-RS 4U My motherboard seems to have a error when I start the server (error 62) and I tried everything that I could think of to troubleshoot, without any possitive out come. From what I have on forums it would probably be CPU related and since it's almost 10 years old I'm planning on changing it. I would like to change the motherboard, cpu, ram and add a graphic card (for plex transcoding), but not sure which option is the best between those; Option 1: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 4.5 GHz 16-Core Processor Noctua NH-D15 G2 HBC 91.58 CFM CPU Cooler Asus PRIME B650M-A AX II Micro ATX AM5 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance 128 GB (4 x 32 GB) DDR5-5600 CL40 Memory Asus Dual GeForce RTX 3060 V2 OC Edition GeForce RTX 3060 12GB Video Card or Option 2: Intel Core i9-14900K 3.2 GHz 24-Core Processor Noctua NH-D15 G2 91.58 CFM CPU Cooler ASRock Z690 Pro RS ATX LGA1700 Motherboard Kingston FURY Beast 128 GB (4 x 32 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory Asus Dual GeForce RTX 3060 V2 OC Edition GeForce RTX 3060 12GB Video Card Or if you have other option please let me know, max budget is about 2.5K$ to 3K$ CAD. And I have another question, if I change my setup will I have any trouble with my flash drive and since my flash drive is also almost 10 years old should I change it. If I change my flash drive will I have any trouble with the license? Edited August 24, 20241 yr by Rene
August 24, 20241 yr If you go Intel you may not need an external video card as the igpu is quite good in this scenario (transcoding). For that matter, even with AMD you may be fine (I've had no issues with limited jellyfin use to browser or Roku ultra, AMD 5600X) Do you need that much memory or CPU? What kind of usage do you see now? Lots of VMs? Suspect you're over-speccing but maybe not. Power supply may be fine - you may be able to find one more power efficient. They do fail, though it's hard to tell when they do till it's catastrophic.
September 4, 20241 yr What is the purpose of your server? You most likely do not need a graphics card and could rely on the Intel's built in graphic card. If you do not need a dedicated graphic card then I would suggest going for an i7 or even a 12th gen CPU. uses less power and has the same quality graphic card. It all depends on your wanted usage
