Nightmare after ZFS conversion - Please HELP!

Featured Replies

Folks, I've been living a nightmare over the last 24hs, and I need some help.

After a successful conversion of my ssd/cache/appdata to ZFS, following the wonderful video-guide of our master, Spaceinvader, I decided to convert one of the disk in the RAID to ZFS too.

Move data out -> format to ZFS -> mode data back was sweet.

I decided to move the shares "system" and "domains" because they aren't in the cache (no space enough). Thus, I disabled Docker and VM (just one, with Home Assistant), and moved to the new ZFS disc.

After moved, I noticed that those shares do not become "dataset". Then, I converted those to dataset. BOOMM! My dockers vanished, together with my VM!

The situation now is:

VM: I managed to up the VM pointing the "Libvirt storage location:" to the dataset backup folder, after the :

/mnt/disk2/system_tmp_20240825014939/libvirt/libvirt.img

I want to recover from this temporary situation.

DOCKER: Still gone. I have this message on the log:

Aug 26 05:11:17 Asilo unraid-api[4806]: ⚠️ Caught exception: read ECONNRESET
Aug 26 05:11:17 Asilo unraid-api[4806]: ⚠️ UNRAID API crashed with exit code 1

Please, help!

Thanks in advance.

I'll be available and dedicated to this the next 24hs, being the hands of the instructions posted here.

I can't help you with the VM issue but for the dockers, you just need to delete your docker.img and recreate your containers. (all of the data should be intact) Same thing probably applies to the libvert.img.

I'd make a backup of both before you do anything.

To recreate your dockers, just go to the docker tab, click "add container" and select them from the template drop-down. You'll have to do this for each docker container you had running.

Update!

Folks, I managed to fix dockers and VM Doing this:

1- moved system and domain of the ZFS disk to a non-ZFSdisk
2 - copied libvirt.img and docker.img from the temp folder created by the dataset generation, into the system share

Bingo! Everything is back!

However, I still interested in moving "system" and "domain" to the ZFS disk. What is the best/safest way to do this?

Thanks MowMdown!
