Another slow parity sync.

Featured Replies

I am having slow parity sync speeds on a new system, I averaging about 19 MBps.  my setup is as follows:

AMD ATHLON II X2 270 3.4GHZ 2MB 65W

ASUS M5A78L-M LX AMD 760G Socket AM3+

(2) Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB Desktop Hard Drive WD20EARX -- One disk 30% full and 1 parity drive

(1) Seagate ST31500341AS  (not in array)

All HDD are on onboard SATA and set the AHCI

all 3 in drive cage (supermicro  CSE-M35T-1B 5-in-3 drive cage)

unraid 5.0 beta 14

I precleared the drives, I turned off everything in the BIOS that is not needed.  I attached the syslog, any ideas would be appreciated.

Does anyone think a supernicro AOC-SASMV8 help the issue

did you let it completely finish?

how fast were the preclears?

  • Author

No I did not let the parity finish, at the rate it was going it was going to take days.

The preclear of the disks took around 27 hours, which I believe is normal.  The benchmarks I have have run "hdparms -tT /dev/sdX" are all around 50mbps, sometimes I see around 250kbps.  Only one time I got around 90-100mbps.  After multiple preclears and long smart tests one of the WDC drives failed.  I returned it since it is still within the return period. I am waiting for the exchange to arrive.

It is perplexing to me why the preclears look reasonable and the benchmarks and parity sync are really slow.

Could there be a problem, since it looks like the IDE bus is active?
