August 27, 20241 yr hi guys, no matter which drive I use, the copy process times out and gives me an error. copying from USB to the drives is no problem. what is going on? did not change a thing. permissions on the drives are fine (RW). best wishes.
August 27, 20241 yr Author thanks for your quick reply. there you go: ryzennas-diagnostics-20240827-1245.zip Edited August 27, 20241 yr by naddel81
August 27, 20241 yr Community Expert Nothing logged that I can see, can you copy over SMB from a different device, like your phone for example, if there's no other PC.
August 27, 20241 yr Author even from another computer, the result is the same. it does not copy over. it wakes up the disk, but does not copy no matter which disk I use.
August 27, 20241 yr Author no problem copying over USB. so SMB seems to be broken. reading is fine, but writing does not work at all. permissions to the drives are OK (R/w).
August 27, 20241 yr Community Expert Enable the flash drive share and see if you can copy something there.
August 27, 20241 yr Author every drive has already been shared. how to create one if I already have everything shared?!
August 27, 20241 yr Community Expert Apparently, @naddel81 has only enabled Disk Shares under Settings >>>> Global Share settings. Unfortunately, the Diagnostic file does not post up information about disk shares-- that I could find. Go to the SHARES Tab and get a screen shot of the portion of that tab:
August 27, 20241 yr Author I just did a 100GB file read, no problem. But writing to any disk from any device is not possible over network.
August 27, 20241 yr Community Expert run the TOOL New Permissions on disks and select each disk manually except for the cache.
August 28, 20241 yr Author I did new permissions on every disk. problem is still: I can copy internally using the unraid file manager without a problem. but as soon as I WRITE data to the SMB, it does time out. reading from SMB is not a problem. permissions are fine. disks are fine. I have no idea what is going on. network card broken maybe? cable was already replaced, was not the problem.
August 28, 20241 yr Community Expert Looks more like an external issue to me, but you can still create a new share to test.
August 28, 20241 yr Community Expert Make sure that the MTU is 1500 bytes for the computers involved. (No Jumbo frames...) If that does not work, tell us what OS the client computer is using. Another thing to try is to reboot all switches and the router. Also move the cables from both the server and client to new ports on the switch(s).
August 30, 20241 yr Author I did disable jumbo frames on my network adapter and restarted the client OS (windows 10) to see the problem gone. I am getting 50-60MB write speeds now (because of parity, I guess) and can navigate to other drives while transfer without lock ups. thanks so much. why is jumbo frames ON per default?
