February 2, 201214 yr ok. I have an issue. I have a WD EARS drive that was jumpered, installed in a win XP machine, formatted to NTFS, and written to. i then built my unraid machine and kept this drive off to the side as it had my backup of movies/music/pics/etc. today i popped it into my unraid server after installing a 3-in-2 dock (drive is not in the dock). i started getting repeating errors during boot (before emhttp started) where the kernel could not read the drive and it kept repeating over and over. to diagnose i ensured the motherboard port and cable are ok, and they are. so, i removed the jumper, re-installed the drive and booted. Low and behold the system booted fine! the problem is, at the very least, i want the pics off the drive. how do I get the data off my NTFS jumpered (now not) drive?
February 3, 201214 yr Author oh, and unraid is setup tp default: 4k aligned. the drive is currently unassigned and hasnt been touched with unraid programs at all except boot up.
February 3, 201214 yr so, i removed the jumper, re-installed the drive and booted. Low and behold the system booted fine! the problem is, at the very least, i want the pics off the drive. how do I get the data off my NTFS jumpered (now not) drive? Put the jumper back on. Install on a different PC, transfer over LAN. Or, install on different port in unRAID server. See if it will then boot.
February 3, 201214 yr Author thanks Joe. tried a different port (on the same controller, ICH9R by intel) without change. However there are two more ports from the JMIcron controller i did not try! doh. no other PC on the lan has an empty spot for the drive. I might be able to install it loosely into a 5.25 bay on my HTPC though. will report back!
February 3, 201214 yr Author got the transfer started. i put a hotswap bay into my HTPC (win7) and it booted and worked right away. transferring to the array right now @ 25mB/s. 1TB of data so can't use cache drive
