How do i expand a ZFS Pool with out recreating it

Featured Replies

Running Unraid 7.0 Beta 2 and it was my understanding that in this release I could expand a ZFS pool without recreating it, but I can't seem to determine how or locate any documentation that shows the process for expanding a ZFS pool with identical discs.  Any assistance or guidance is appreciated.

Expansion options It will depend on the current pool topology, please post that.

ZFS pool made up of 6 2TB SSD discs configured as a raidz pool, see below:

Any other detail needed to provide guidance?

Currently you can only expand the pool by adding another vdev of the same type and width, i.e., another 6 devices in raidz1.

Soon you will be able to expand a zfs raidz pool by adding a single device, after OpenZFS 2.3 is out, which is expected later this year.

Great, thanks for that information

Truenas Electric Eel is supporting expanding zfs raidz pools, are we any closer please? It's the only thing stopping me from moving to Unraid.

Most likely only after openzfs 2.3.0 is out, Truenas is using a pre production version.
