Questions around disk utilization, shares and disks

Featured Replies

Hi,

unRAID setup is 4.7, 2TB parity and 3 2TB drives.

When i first started playing with unRAID, i only had 1 data and the parity drive. i setup up a video share and a backup share and copied my data to those 2 shares. I've since added 2 more drives. As i copy new data to the shares, the other drives don't seem to be used. Is there a way to now balance the data from those shares across the drives? Or can i have one share allocated to drive 1 and the other share to drive 2?

Apologies if this has been answered numerous times before.

They will be used according to the share settings.

UnRaid won't automatically 'spread' you data out if you add a new disk.

As you add data it follows the rules of the allocation method which can be read about in the UnRaid Wiki

using the same settings you can include and exclude disks per shares so if you really wanted to you can make Share 1 only go onto Disk 1 and Share 2 on Disk 2.

This won't move any data that is already on the disks, i believe Midnight Commander can help you with moving data around on the server (Telnet in and type mc into the prompt).
