EricVin Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I have a gaming VM on my machine that reliably crashes when I launch certain games. What's especially annoying is that when the VM crashes, it takes Unraid down with it. I've attatched the logs from a reboot and crash, which I obtained by mirroring the syslog to USB though it doesn't appear to show anything from the crash, and the VM XML. My machine has the following motherboard: `ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI`, with an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and 128GB of RAM. The VM is running off a pass-through NVME SSD with a 3080 passed through as well.. I've run memtest with no issues, and ensured SVM is enabled on my motherboard. Does anyone have any advice on potential issues and/or how to debug this further? <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <domain type='kvm' id='2'> <name>Windows 10</name> Jclendineng Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Same issue but with Firefox running for some reason. I have a ProArt B650-CREATOR and certain apps will crash the VM and Unraid will restart. No logs in unpaid prior to restart and no logs in Windows event viewer prior to restart. Couple be bad RAM? Im going to update my BIOS and see if that helps anything. Quote
Lelo Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 (edited) Hi, i have a similar problem - VM starts and runs for a while (with high CPU usage) and suddenly VM and Unraid crashes/reboots. Also AMD CPU (AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics) and Nvidia 1660s gpu-passthrough. Tried without gpu and VNC - same issue. When booting Windows 11 in secure mode (with network drivers), everything works fine?!? Restart in "normal mode" without gpu-passthrough leaded to crash again .... No idea what is the reason for this, but it seams to be cause by something within the Windows VM (-> very high CPU load + Windows Update pending - never finished due to crash). Maybe a driver issue with AMD CPUS? My Linux VM (Zorin OS) works without any issue. Please tell me when you solved your problem. Thanks Edited November 18, 2024 by Lelo Quote
Lelo Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I think the reason was an old QXL driver that was still installed ... now it seems to be working again! Quote
