February 8, 201214 yr I have been working on this for a couple days. I bought the Kingston Card reader with 8 GB to replace my USB Kingston Data Traveler. So I prepared the Card Reader-8GB for Unraid and copied the contents of my Kingston Traveler flash drive to it. That was my goal. But I ran into a problem with my network. With the original Traveler, I had no problem. But with the new Kingston Card reader with 8 GB no IP was detected. The contents of the 2 drives are identical. I must have done this about 10 times or more. With the card reader I cannot even used the command shutdown -h now . Instead I had to pull the plug. My array and network work fine with the original flash drive. Here is my syslog for the problem: Feb 8 23:12:02 Tower ifplugd(eth0)[1284]: Executing '/etc/ifplugd/ifplugd.action eth0 up'. (Network) Feb 8 23:12:02 Tower ifplugd(eth0)[1284]: client: Polling for DHCP server on interface eth0: (Network) Feb 8 23:12:03 Tower kernel: tg3 0000:1e:00.0: PME# enabled (Network) Feb 8 23:12:03 Tower logger: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1: /sbin/dhcpcd -d -t 30 -h Tower eth0 (Network) Feb 8 23:12:03 Tower kernel: tg3 0000:1e:00.0: PME# disabled (Network) Feb 8 23:12:03 Tower kernel: tg3 0000:1e:00.0: irq 34 for MSI/MSI-X (Network) Feb 8 23:12:03 Tower dhcpcd[2189]: broadcasting DHCP_DISCOVER (Network) Feb 8 23:12:07 Tower kernel: tg3: eth0: Link is up at 1000 Mbps, full duplex. February 8, 201214 yr if you can't use shutdown/powerdown then your flash drive is probably not mounting properly. what does the output of: ls -al /boot give you.
February 8, 201214 yr Author I have put back the original flash drive and everything is working as it should. The card reader and original flash drive have exactly the same files. I did prepare the card reader with format, named it UNRAID and run make_ bootable.bat as administrator with Win7. Copied all contents from original flash. Counted the file and folder sizes. They are the same. My network problem is with both wired and wireless but only with the card reader. May be the card reader is defective or the SDHC class4 is bad. Although I doubt it. I am kind of afraid of messing things up if I put the card reader back on and run your command.
February 8, 201214 yr try redoing the card reader but NOT copying files over to start. See if it boots and works like you expect it to. If it does shut the server down, copy the config folder over along with the unmenu and packages folder if you have unMenu installed. If you are just doing a "select all" and copy you are likely overwritting some hidden files on the card reader that is screwing it up.
February 8, 201214 yr How are you formatting it? Are you formatting it in the card reader? Did you use the hp usb disk formatter tool? Did you use the syslinux -ma command on the card reader's drive letter? Did you label the USB key UNRAID Frankly from what I'm seeing, the eth0 is being sensed, and a DHCP address is being requested. That's not typical if the issue is the boot flash. do a df -v after you boot, see if /boot is mounted. Then do a ls -l /boot
February 9, 201214 yr Author How are you formatting it? Used Win7 quick format Are you formatting it in the card reader? Yes Did you use the hp usb disk formatter tool? No Did you use the syslinux -ma command on the card reader's drive letter? YES Did you label the USB key UNRAID Yes Frankly from what I'm seeing, the eth0 is being sensed, and a DHCP address is being requested. That's not typical if the issue is the boot flash. do a df -v after you boot, see if /boot is mounted. Then do a ls -l /boot I think that Prostuff1 is right. By copying the contents of the flash drive over the card reader I might have inadvertently overwriten some hidden files. The card reader did boot to Unraid OS but locked ( crashed) somehow. The card reader did boot into Unraid but crashed subsequently. I bought 3 card readers because I understand that the unraid license is tied to the card and not the memory which will fail. Frankly, there is something I do not understand here. It's such a trivial job!! But not for me!!! I have gone back to the original flash drive so I will stop working on this for a while. Thanks you all,
