Backup ideas required

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Looking for ideas to a remote backup problem.

My parents have now got fibre installed which means I have good speeds to be able to back up to them (500/500 at their place and mine), I have installed my old 8-bay Synology DS1518+ at their house populated with my previous 10TB drives, I want to back up my UNRAID box to the Synology but am facing an issue, the Synology is too old for whole disk encryption so am having to rely on the old way of doing things by encrypting the shares, this leads to a problem with path lengths i.e too many characters in the path I'm backing up means those files fail to backup (I think the max is 128).

Are there any ways around this so I can still utilse the Synology which is still perfectly serviceable and get all my data on to it?

For the stuff I can backup I've just been using rsync which is working fine.

I realise Synology kit is out of the scope of this community, but if anyone has experience the same issue and found a work around I'd love to hear about it.

Really appreciate any input you might have.

Cheers.

R.
