SUPER glitchy audio in VM

Featured Replies

I virtualized my main desktop (which I use for gaming, music stuff, everything) because I got tired of having drives die and having to reinstall windows and all that.  (And I think virtualization is friggin awesome.  lol)  I passed through a NVMe SSD for the OS, a bunch of CPU cores from my 5950X and my RTX3090 as well as a bunch of USB devices like keyboard, mouse, audio interface, some music gear, etc.  Works great overall, but I've noticed audio on it is SUPER wonky.  I have to CONSTANTLY keep tweaking ASIO buffer size to keep it from being an all out glitchfest, and even then, once I DO get it working ok, it'll be fine for 30 seconds, clitch like CRAZY for 20 seconds, be fine for 45 seconds, everything will completely freeze for a minute, etc etc.  It's basically unusable with any audio software.  Which is kinda strange.  I wouldn't think that'd be affected by the virtualization but I guess it's because of the USB passthrough?...that's how my audio interface is connected...

Can anyone think of any tweaks I can try to get it to stop glitching like CRAZY and being a generally unusable peesajunk?  Are there any ways to speed up, optimize, etc USB passthrough?  Any best practices?

Any info greatly appreciated!!  Thank you!!

Nope. Doesn't look low that's going to help. I'm actually going to completely abandon this "virtualized main machine" idea...it's just FAR too buggy and glitchy. It's been nothing but trouble and STILL isn't working right. It was cool getting passthrough to work...hadn't done that before...but looks like that's where this party is going to end. Time to go back to a normal install. Oh well.

Thanks, everyone!!
