Have to add drives as cache to encrypt them?

Hi everyone!

Space Invader in this video from 4 yrs ago was adding unassigned disks as cache drives only to encrypt them. 

 

Is this still a recommended practice?

To switch off dockers, vms, array. Change cache disks and file system to encrypted. Then start the array in maintainance mode for encription file being created/assigned and then reverse the whole process.
