Proxmox/Unraid installation, Several NIC and configuration

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a physical server with 4 network interfaces on it.

On this server a Proxmox is installed.

In Proxmox, one VM is used to run Unraid (with passthrough for the USB key that hosts Unraid and drives).

In Unraid I have several Docker apps.

I would like to have 4 IPs with 4 different MAC addresses,:

- 1 for Proxmox

- 1 for Unraid

- 1 for a Docker app inside Unraid

- 1 for another Docker app inside Unraid

What's the best way to do this?

If you want to use the physical NICs within the Unraid VM, you would have to pass them directly to the VM. This approach could cause issues because if the 4 NICs are in one card, the you would probably have to pass through the whole card and you would lose the port you use for Proxmox. That being said, every virtual NIC you assign to a VM within Proxmox has a unique MAC so you could assign as many as you want.

The part I'm not understanding is why you need dedicated ports for certain containers?
