Just pointing out that the retail box was 5 year warranty, bare drives were 2 or 3 year warranty. ... The retail box of a Seagate (not the same drive) 2TB at Best Buy is $10 more ($119) and 5 year warranty .... For my build, your mileage may vary, the slight performance difference doesn't matter to me. I'm more than fast enough for what I use my Unraid box for with either drive. So the $10 is worth the extra manufacturers warranty period to me.
February 14, 201214 yr I believe going forward ALL drives are only 2 years. There's going to be some old drives that still have 5 years advertised and that would be honored of course. Sounds like the Best Buy drives are old stock which means you should grab it while you can.
February 14, 201214 yr Author I just want do confirm my observations about the differences between the drives. Seagate has specs on the 6Gb/sec drive: Sustained data transfer rate 144Mb/s It seems to me that I am not going to see any real difference between SATA 3Gb/sec and 6Gb/sec. If the data being requested is in the 64MB cache, then the 6Gb/sec is going to be quicker. Otherwise they are going to come out the same.
