windows explorer taskbar randomly crashes and restarts on windows 11 vm

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have been facing this rather annoying issue with Windows 11 installed on an m.2 drive passed though to a vm.

The file explorer and taskbar will frequently and randomly crash. The vm could be idling and then crash, or it could that i right-click on a load of files get the blue spinning while and lose the file explorer window. It could be me working on something completely deferent or web browsing and the taskbar will disappear then reappear.

I do not have any issues with windows booting bare metal.

This has been happening for quite some time. I am on 6.12.10, but can't upgrade due to using virt net to make the vm network show up on my internal network.

I have tried to update the vertio drivers from the latest ISO download, but Windows device manager says they are up-to-date.

How does one go about tracking down and seeing what is the cause of the issue. I also think it is similar to how Premare pro will lag when switching from another window, to Premare pro and the video viewer is frozen even when one scrubs though.

Many thanks
