Unraid not showing up on network?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm a new unraid user and so far everything is working great with one exception.  My unraid server does not show is up as an available machine in my Network (Vista machines).  I can manually access everything through windows explorer, but not navigate to it through my network.  Is this normal?

Thanks,

Tim

Never mind, I figured it out.  The default workgroup was MSHOME for Unraid and my other PC's were set to WORKGROUP.

I was going to suggest the possibility of a work group name mismatch, but you mentioned that you could 'access everything through windows explorer', and I did not think that was possible unless they were in the same work group.  Perhaps I've understood something wrong here, but if true, this could be a security hole (a Windows 'feature', not unRAID's fault).  Very few people though would have multiple work groups on their local network, with simple networking, no domain control.

Windows don't limit you (security-wise) to go to other workgroups' computers.

For such a feature, you need real domains.
