February 17, 201214 yr Which cables for connecting SATA disks to a M1015 controller? Is this the right one: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mini-sas-to-4-sata-adapter-cable-red-1m-length-40722 or this one: http://www.informatique.nl/520471/supermicro-cbl-0097l-02-sff-8087-4xsata.html or this one: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Multilane-mini-SAS-Kabel-SFF8087-SATA-0-6m-4x-SATA-NEU-/370282496336?pt=DE_Technik_Computerzubeh%C3%B6r_Kabel_Adapter&hash=item56368e8150
February 17, 201214 yr http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Multilane-mini-SAS-Kabel-SFF8087-SATA-0-6m-4x-SATA-NEU-/370282496336?pt=DE_Technik_Computerzubeh%C3%B6r_Kabel_Adapter&hash=item56368e8150 I believe this one is correct, although I don't speak German. This cable will allow you to connect your SATA controller card directly to your hard drives, or to a SATA hot swap drive cage. You want a forward breakout cable, type 8087.
February 17, 201214 yr Author Thank you Rajahal. It says 'Host to Backplane' in the description and 'SAS 36pin auf 4x S-ATA 7pin' I hope that is correct.
February 18, 201214 yr Host to backplain may mean reverse breakout. Does one say forward breakout? Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk
February 18, 201214 yr Here's a german offer, if this helps. I do run these with my M015 just fine... http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B000HVXCXO
February 19, 201214 yr Author Here's a german offer, if this helps. I do run these with my M015 just fine... http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B000HVXCXO Thanks Ford, Which Unraid are you using? 5b11? How did u reflash the M1015? I ask this because I get mine next week.
February 19, 201214 yr You need to flash it to IT or IR mode. IT mode removes all onboard raid functions. Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk
February 19, 201214 yr ...everything you need is in this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12767.msg121131#msg121131 Once you have flashed it successfully to IT mode, it will become a 9211-8i (a 9210-8i actually, but that does not matter). For further flash upgrades you can refer to the standard updates from LSI for the 9211-8i controller. ...I currently do not run an unRAID box, so I cannot comment on the best version to support the card...AFAIR I used 5.11b with it for a while as well as building a custom kernel around 4.7 with the drivers.
February 19, 201214 yr Author Did you flash with the two files (P10) and P(11) in the post you linked?
February 19, 201214 yr ...these are just different releases/versions of the firmware I did flash my first M1015 with the P10 version, another with the P11 some months later. Please read the thread that I referred to from the top, OP. This is about cross-flashing your M1015. This card originally is a full HW-Raid card, with specialized firmware. Cross flashing it to IT mode will turn it into a simple HBA...this is actually a "downgrade". After the fact, it will appear as a different model, a 9211-8i (when you check the LSI site, the 9211-8i will look different., with a layout not matching your M1015. With some google-fu you can find the specs and pictures of a 9210-8i, which resembles the same layout as the 9240-8i - of which the M1015 is a re-branded version of. The 9210-8i and 9211-8i, besides the physical layout resemble the same technology, so firmwares do match). So the first step needed is a cross flash of the card from HW-Raid to HBA in IT-mode....you can use P10 or P11 for it...both should do fine. If you want to update to future versions of the HBA firmware, like the actual P12, just use the original LSI firmware and instructions.
