October 6, 20241 yr February last year I built my unraid box with five drives, all refurbs. Well, over a year and a half later I have three showing SMART errors including the parity drive. Unless I want to rebuild everything I need to move fast. Currently 4TB drives so 16TB array. Scenario I: replace all drives with larger ones (expensive!) Scenario II: replace all drives with fewer larger capacity ones. (three 12TB drives, then I can add more later) What is the best way of handling this? Preferably Scenario II.

October 6, 20241 yr Community Expert SMART looks mostly OK except for one which has some reallocated sectors, but not many, run an extended SMART test on all drives and post new diags.

October 8, 20241 yr Author Alright all extended SMART tests done. No errors. Attaching diagnostics but I am really confused. Three drives had SMART errors at one point. tower-diagnostics-20241008-0818.zip
October 8, 20241 yr Community Expert Since the tests passed all disks are OK, at least for now, you can acknowledge the current SMART errors, that way you will get notified if new ones appear, and if one or more of the disks keep getting new errors, you may consider replacing.
