Drives keep being disabled

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,  I'm reaching out hoping someone might be able to point me in the right directions I've attached my tower diagnostics down below in case but the issue I'm having is that I keep getting my drives disabled (Its never the same drive, its even been one of my two parity drives before) , I then have to shut down the raid, unmount the drive, turn raid back on, turn off again and remount the drive so it can build it back up again. I've found no other way to get them to be recognized once disabled. The issues is this has been happening once I turn any thing on more then one program at a time on my dockers.  That and the Parity-Sync/Data-Rebuild take days to run and I keep every docker off while they do just in case, As soon as they are done I spin up one program at a time and have done this in different orders to see if one program is the trigger but it seems completely random. I thought maybe my drives being so full might be the issue so moved some stuff off the drives but hasn't seemed to help. Any help or direction to point me in would be great appreciated

Feels more like a hardware issue than a software one.

Are you sure that your PSU is up to handling the number of drives you have?      Do you use power splitters as they can sometimes result in voltage sag to drives when the system is under load.

Im running a dell R710 6 drive bays with 2 psu and a disk shelf DS4246 with 4 psu, I have both the server and disk shelf plugged into two separate UPS so power outages wont damage the drive/os with unclean shut downs, recently changed out the batteries as they were getting old, I havent filled up the entire drive bay yet but this issue isnt new though its gotten worse lately. It used to only happen when I ran a vm windows and when it was downloading and reading from the same disk I could get I/O fails and it would error the disk out and Id have to go through the process of unmounting and mounting again. but now it seems to happen even more lately even when not using the vm. only recent change is a did add a few new dockers, as long as I keep it to just my dns and plex is wont have an issue but the moment I start spinning up the other dockers, its random when it will happen a day later , 7 days later and hour.

I cant say for sure its not a power issue, but I do have the max psu units i can for my system and did upgrade them to the max size, which wasn't much given how old the equipment is and its compatibly. Is there a way I can test or something i can run to find out or have a better idea of the issue? Im not using any power spliters

Drive didn'0t drop, SMART attribute changed

You do have read error on disk 17, it's not logged as a disk problem, but SMART shows some issues, run an extended SMART test on that disk.

Had the drive go into error state again, listed logs and screen shot in case anyone is able to help point me in the right direction

Disk dropped offline and reconnect with a different ID, this is usually a power/connection problem.
