February 18, 201214 yr So, I needed to add another drive to my system. I am out of onboard sata ports so I also got a PCI-Express RAID Controller Card. For some reason, I unplugged the parity drive from onboard and plugged it into this card and added my new drive via the freed up onboard sata. Now when I went to add the new drive to the array via the "drives" menu, I saw my new drive listed but it would not let me add it. I went to start the array and it began to do a parity sync. did I just royally screw myself by plugging my parity drive into a new port? Or is this normal behavior...wait for it to do a parity check THEN add the new drive? Appreciate any help!
February 18, 201214 yr Parity sync or check? It may be rebuilding parity on the new drive. Which is ok and better as you want the parity drive connected to the motherboard for speed. When done parity, preclear the old parity drive and add it to the array as a new data drive Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk
