Reallocated Sector Error 1696

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I just bought a couple of refurbrished HDD on Amazon, 12 TB Ironwoolf NAS. Everything was fine, i set up one of them for parity and the other one for data storage (this is the one failing).

The problem is that this morning when checked my server i got a ton of warning notifications "Reallocated sector count" starting to 1 until it reached 1696.

TBH i'm not completly sure what does it mean.

So i came to ask for your help, is my HDD failing. I'm still within the 30 days return with amazon, should i ask for a replacement, or is this "Normal"?

I ran a SMART short self-test: and it said completed withouth error, and now i'm running an Extended one.

It's not normal for a new disk, you can wait for the extended test result to see if it's still OK or not, but if you can replace it now with a new one, not a refurbished one, I would.
