Issue with disabled disks, unsure what to do

Featured Replies

With my unraid server I ended up having a few usb drives connected and i decided to add a lsi card so i could connect the drives via sata.  I had a few issues and now I am unsure what to do.  I currently have 3 disks that show as disabled and I have 2 parity drives. This means I cannot start the array due to "Too many wrong and/or missing disks!".

I have a drive that is new to the array that I was going to do a parity swap with because it is the new largest drive.  When I attempted it I got a 2 errors one of which being Buffer I/O error on dev sdr1, logical block 24379949, async page read.  sdr1 is the old parity drive I attempted to switch around what sata connection it was using with no luck.  it showed no smart errors until I did a extended self test and it came back with Current pending sector: 23 and

Offline uncorrectable 22 and says Last SMART test result: Completed: read failure.  This drive is not disabled in unraid.

one of the drives was connected via usb and was removed awhile back and I moved the contents to the other drives in unraid and I attempted to zero it but had some issues and never got it removed so in unraid it still shows as a unsigned with a x next to it, and it says Device is missing(disabled) contents emulated.

The second drive was connected via usb and seemed to randomly be disabled with no smart errors or anything else wrong.  I connected it via sata with no change.  Currently doing a SMART extended self test on it.

the third drive was connected via usb and I then connected it via sata and it now shows as wrong.  I connected it via usb again and it still says wrong.  It appears that the size is correct so i am unsure what the issue is.

I am unsure of how I should proceed with my configuration. My current thought is to try and reset the array configuration, and use preserve current assignments via the new configuration tool, but that also seems risky since it seems like there is a issue with one of  the current parity drives.  What is the best way to proceed, is there anyway to attempt to save as much data as possible?

Parity contains none of your data

Disk20 is not disabled, it's wrong because the size is different, any idea why? Any controller changes?

Disk20 was originally connected via usb, I connected it via sata and thats when It showed wrong.  I switched it back to usb and it still shows wrong, but I'm not sure why the size would be different.

Some USB bridges can change the capacity, post new diags with the disk connected via USB, with the same bridge you were using.

I moved it back over and it seems to show up correctly which is nice, I thought i had swapped drive 20 back to usb but I accidently swapped drive 18.  I can now start the array but it shows disk 18 as new.  I think i will start a data rebuild and then add a disk as disk 1 before I attempt a parity swap again to be safe.  Thanks for your help!

First unassign disk 18, start the array and post new diags.

Sorry, I had already started the array awhile back before I saw your post, but it is working for now!
