October 24, 20241 yr I have had some weird issues in the past with network dropping and the last few updates seem to have resolved those with the addition of a new unraid usb install. Seeing something recently that has seemed to be occurring again. Background: I run plex and some other hosting services on my unraid which all perform as expected under normal operation. I also run a plex server on a windows pc for my travel trailer which I update the external drive with new content manually. Current Issue: Last week I cleared the external due to tweaking some tdarr settings to reduce file size and expected this to be the most efficient method to correct and reduce size on the external automagically. Once cleared(just deleted all files not a format) I installed the device into my server before leaving for work. Once I reached my office I found that I no longer had access to the server via vpn. To verify I logged into my firewall and found no activity to the server and that it was offline. Secondary testing found no access from a local pc on the same network to the server. Figured that this was just a fluke and did not investigate further after returning home at the end of the day. Restarted the server and everything was functional again. Mounted the drive via unassigned devices and transferred using midnight commander. Once all transferring was done the drive was removed last night. This morning I was intending on checking the server from my office to check new apps on the platform. Found again that I no longer have access to the server after removing that drive. I assume that a restart and everything should be fine again. Currently I do not have any logs or additional info at this time. Is there anything specific I should be looking for before just power cycling when I return home? Is this something that is common to occur and i just need to plan for a restart after connecting/disconnecting external drives? As a note not the most fluent with cli but can navigate somewhat through it with the right guidance and "googlefoo" TIA any help or insight is appreciated.
October 24, 20241 yr Author Also I have some additional info i am running on an older server it is a Dell C1100 with a single built in 4 port nic card. Would there be a way to have a secondary connection to provide ssh access in this scenario? I'm assuming that if i lost main network the secondary "network" would drop as well and would be irrelevant without a network based KVM of sorts.
